Pick the finish first, the colour second. Matte and suede finishes are the workhorses — they hide fingerprints and fine scratches, so they suit wardrobes and kitchens in daily use. High gloss looks striking on kitchen shutters but shows every smudge; textured woodgrains give the look of veneer at a fraction of the cost. Standard decorative sheets are about 1mm thick for outer surfaces; thinner liner grades are for cabinet insides, where nobody looks.
